Community Impact
This training was not just about enhancing my skills—it also had a significant community impact. One of the most exciting moments was hosting a free public event where Allan shared his expertise in bespoke tailoring. Attendees asked thoughtful questions, learned about the craft, and even had the opportunity to book lessons with Allan.
Additionally, this project propelled the expansion of my business. I am now in the process of launching an online store, where I will sell tailoring supplies, fabrics, and deadstock materials. My training with Allan helped me understand what is missing in the local market, and I see this as a huge opportunity to bring quality materials to the Calgary sewing community.
All my classes are hosted in community centers throughout Calgary, reinforcing my commitment to supporting local businesses and fostering creative hubs within various neighborhoods. By utilizing these spaces, I help strengthen the arts and crafts culture in Calgary, ensuring that sewing remains accessible to people of all backgrounds.
Another major development has been the expansion of my course offerings into more intermediate and advanced sewing programs. With the skills I gained through my training, I introduced new courses such as Pattern Drafting: Basic Bodice and Sewing 201. These programs filled a gap in the local sewing education landscape, as no other institution in Calgary offers this level of expertise to the public.
By increasing the frequency of my courses and introducing higher-level instruction, I have given students the opportunity to continue developing their skills beyond the basics. This has created a more structured learning path for those who want to progress from beginner to expert, ensuring that Calgary has a stronger sewing community equipped with professional-level knowledge.
