Pattern Drafting:
The Foundation of Bespoke Tailoring
One of the first and most critical steps in bespoke tailoring is pattern drafting. Unlike commercial patterns, which are based on standardized sizes, bespoke patterns are drafted from scratch for each client. This requires precise body measurements and an understanding of the client’s posture and fit preferences.
Through my training with Allan, I gained firsthand experience in advanced pattern drafting techniques. I learned how to assess a client’s stance, balance, and body asymmetry, then translate that into a well-fitting pattern. This knowledge has greatly improved my own sewing practice, allowing me to teach more advanced courses to my students. No school or institution in Calgary currently offers this level of pattern drafting expertise to the public, which makes this knowledge invaluable.
