Cutting: Precision and the Importance of High-Quality Fabrics
After the pattern is drafted, the next crucial step is cutting the fabric. This is where I learned the importance of precision—even a slight miscalculation can affect the garment’s fit. Unlike factory-made clothing, where thousands of pieces are cut simultaneously with machines, bespoke garments are cut by hand, ensuring that every seam lines up perfectly.
Another key lesson from my training was understanding fabric quality. Allan emphasized the importance of sourcing the best materials for bespoke tailoring. Through this project, I purchased fabric from Savile Row suppliers—the birthplace of bespoke tailoring. These textiles are unmatched in quality and durability, something that simply cannot be substituted with locally available fabrics.
