Using Commercial Sewing Patterns

In this program you will learn:

• How to read pattern markings and apply them effectively.

• Carefully following pattern instructions for assembling your garment.

• Proper fabric cutting techniques.

• Pattern alterations.

• Fabric selection tips.

• Fitting techniques for a perfect finish.

Pre-requisites: Sewing 101 or equivalent experience (threading your sewing machine, understanding seam allowance, backstitch, stitch widths and lengths). You can choose to bring your sewing machine to class or have one provided for you.

Supplies: Sewing machines are available for in-class use, however students are welcome to bring their own if they wish (please indicate your preference on the intake form upon booking). All tools and supplies are provided. However, students are required to bring their own pattern and fabric. You will receive more detailed instructions via email upon booking.

Preparing for the Class:

1. Sewing Pattern and Instructions: Please bring your own sewing pattern and instructions to the class. If you're unsure whether the pattern is suitable, feel free to send me an email. We can discuss it beforehand to ensure you have the right materials. When you sign up for the class, you will receive an email with a list of stores and online resources that carry sewing patterns.

2. Materials: Bring your own materials for the class. It's important to pre-wash your fabric before attending the session. List of local fabric stores will be sent upon registering for this program.

3. Sewing Machine: You have the option to bring your own sewing machine. Alternatively, one can be provided for you (please indicate your preference on the intake form upon booking).

4. Supplies: All other necessary supplies will be provided.
